EmperorsClothes – Redux

Date September 5, 2006

After I posted this, I had an email from a guy (Holy cow, I have a reader?!!?) who asked me why I was so down on Web 2.0 when there’s so much cool stuff going on.

And, he’s right, there is. No one can argue how “Web 2.0″ technologies and techniques have been used to vastly improve user-experience over their Web 1.0 couterparts/predecessors, but it’s still about connecting people.

I’m no expert in what makes a viable opportunity for a VC and what doesn’t; I look at Techcrunch announcements from the end I do understand – as a potential user. My point was that there’s an awful lot of “me too” development which is appears to be getting funding because of the hype surrounding “Web 2.0″, and (to me at, least) it has the familiar smell of a dot com bubble.
