ex-HP Chair Starts Pointing the Finger

Date September 28, 2006

The BBC is carrying the story that Patricia Dunn, ex-Chairwoman of HP, is now pointing the finger at her CFO in the “pretexting” scandal that cost her her job.

According to a statement that she will submit to a House Committee investigating whether HP broke any laws (although, I think that point is moot), she assumed that Bob Wayman gave the authorisation for “whatever work was undertaken”. Yet, according to Tom Perkins account of what happened, it was Dunn who instigated the search for the source of the leak. And right now, Reuters is reporting that HP’s general counsel has resigned.

Things are going to get messy as this unfolds…

Oh yes, I agree with you: this is going to get very messy before all is said and done. I wouldn’t be surprised to see evidence of even more wrongdoing come to light in the ensuing investigations and finger pointing drama.

So is Dunn going to stay on with the board or directors as planned, or is she just completely out of the picture now?

Yes - she’s gone. Originally, she was going to step down as chair, but remain on the board. Last week, though, she resigned altogether - which is what she should have done in the first place, in my opinion.
