Ofcom have legalised personal FM-transmitters

Date October 5, 2006

The telecoms regulator here in the UK has finally come around to the idea of legalising personal, low-powered FM-transmitters like the iTrip.

A law passed in 1949 prohibited the use of radio broadcast equipment without a license, making devices like the iTrip or the AudiaX illegal and could have resulted in a two-year prison sentence, if prosecuted.

I’m guessing that these things will appear in number of Christmas stockings this year…
