Doom-Induced Motion Sickness
October 8, 2006
Xbox Live Arcade recently posted Doom, which has now been ported to the Xbox 360.
I hadn’t played Doom for a long, long time, and something I had forgotton about was that games of this ilk - fast, moving FPS - tend to make me a little, ummm, queasy… It used to be bad enough on a 17″ monitor, but on a 42″ Panasonic flat screen, the effect is magnified accordingly.
I managed to hold-out for 40 minutes before the room started spinning. Having got up off the sofa, I felt like I had been turned around 10 times and told to walk in a straight line! The long-suffering Mrs. T simply rolled her eyes when she came into the kitchen to find me tinged green and hanging on to the bar for dear life.
Despite all that though, it was like hooking up with on old friend - I was grinning like an idiot when I picked up the rocket launcher and let rip, and even the dungeon layouts started to come back to me. The game looks great, plays well and the 5.1 surround sound kicks ass!
