SOT – Save our TWiT

Date October 23, 2006

The news that TWiT may on it’s last legs has got the blogosphere buzzing – and rightly so.

Paul O’Flaherty and Rob Hyndman are among the scores who share their disbelief, while Jon Emmon quotes a great comment that he himself posted to the TWit.tv comments log.

A “Save TWit” blog has already appreared, and had a comment from none other than Leo Laporte:

It’s not I who want to take a break. I’m here every week ready to record, edit, and post a show. I gladly put in more time on the show than all the other TWiTs put together, but if the other TWiTs decide not to show there’s not much I can do about it.

At this point I have a couple of choices. I could re-cast the show with people who will actually show up, but is it a TWiT without Patrick and John?

Or I could put TWiT to rest and come up with something to replace it. Neither choice is desirable, especially since we have a sponsor who is paying to be on this show in particular, but frankly it’s more than I can handle trying to keep this cast together.

As I said, I’m going to defer a decision until I come back fromt the cruise.

– Leo Laporte, Chief TWiT

So, it sounds like Leo is having a hard time putting together the cast each week, which is a pity but understandable, given the pressure on everyones time.

I would hate to see TWit “put to rest”, as Leo puts it, so perhaps the solution is make it a monthly show, or a fortnightly show but keep the name. Maybe more TWiTs should be inducted, meaning that there was a larger of pool to choose from each week. Either way, I hope this isn’t the end of TWiT because on each episode, without fail, I hear

  • Something I agree with
  • Something I disagree with
  • Something I didn’t know
  • Something that makes me laugh out loud

And that, to me, is the sign of a great panel of people delivering great media content.

I agree, TWiT is never a “me too” or “party line” podcast when it comes to coverage and opinion. The variety of opinions expressed is what makes it great.
