It’s obviously something that has bugged the guys at Facebook too, because they’ve recently tweaked their API to allow the Facebook Twitter app to post Tweets to your Facebook status! (You’ll need to be a Facebook member for that link to work, btw.)

Thanks to Blognation, via Twitter!

I just noticed what looks like a bug with Google Reader in Firefox. I was reading long post by Marc Andreessen, and wanted to declutter the screen so clicked the “collapse sidebar icon” (highlighted at left; notice also the width of the scrollbar in the article pane – highlighted at right):

And I found that with the sidebar and subscription list collapsed (again, highlighted on the left), the scrollbar on the article pane (see right) had also collapsed, and was so thin that it was almost impossible to grab:

So, I tried IE7, to see if that had the same problem:

As you can see, it looks fine in IE, so the problem appears to be with Firefox. It’s a minor cosmetic bug, but I’m sure it’s something the Reader developers would want to fix.

I don’t have Opera or Safari for Windows installed, so can’t test with those browsers; nor do I own a Mac, so I can’t test whether this is specific to the Windows versions of Firefox, either. If you’re running another browser on a non-Windows hardware platform, maybe you can help.

To show you this in action, I’ve embedded Paul O’Flaherty’s channel, just here. If you click Start, you’ll see a small “t” icon just above the player controls; click the icon and the channel is paused, while a box is displayed over the top for you to provide your Twitter username and password. The message you twitter will include a link back to the channel.

I can’t think of any other site that has Twitter messaging so deeply embedded into its guts; something echoed by Rick Turoczy. Twitter users are used to manually processing URLs they want to tweet through services like TinyURL, or URLTea, but Splashcast viewers can now do this without having to leave the site.

Via Marshall Kirkpatrick, who has been Twittering this like a proud Dad!

I like Twitter. It’s cathartic and voyeuristic at the same time; it’s like passing notes at the back of class, but ”all growed-up”.

Even so, it’s not easy to find people that you want to follow and engage with. Something I would like to have with Twitter is the ability to subscribe to “drive-by Twitterings” – so, every 24 hours, you would get the tweets from a different, yet totally random person added to your message queue. If you dig someone’s tweets, you add ‘em. Simple.

In the meantime, I’ll stick to using tools like Dave Troy’s excellent Twitter search to find like-minded individuals who would feel no shame standing up, and saying, “my name is <your name here>, and I Tweet!”.

There’s been a lot of buzz about Twitter in recent weeks - fueled by A-listers like Robert Scoble and Leo Laporte (although Leo has recently jumped ship to Jaiku - and I’m still not sure I really understand why), and although it’s been fun watching mainstream media try and get their heads around “the point of Twitter”, the best description I’ve seen yet came from fellow Twitterer, artistx:

Until Twitter I was only half alive! I only lived my life – now I share in loads of people’s lives. Seeing other perspectives – like reading hundreds of short novels every day. On the downside I haven’t done any work for weeks.

I just love the image created by the notion that each “Tweet” is a short novel. When explaining to people why I like Twitter, I’ve found that rather than try and verbalise what it’s about, it’s better to grab them by the scruff of the neck and shove them face first into the stream of consciousness that is Twittervision. It is, literally, like reading other peoples thoughts.
